HE Laser - How to Protect The Fiber Laser Cutting Machines From Moisture, Tips and Best Practices.

2023-06-29

As temperatures rise, air humidity increases, and water droplets can be found on the surface of walls and floors, making everything wet.

If the moisture-proof protection of fiber laser cutting machines is neglected, it can result in problems such as black screens on console computers, industrial control computers that won't start, laser alarms, and circuit breakers tripping, ultimately affecting production.

Therefore, protecting fiber laser cutter from moisture is necessary to prevent decreased performance, damage, and costly repairs.

The following are some methods and precautions for protecting laser cutting machines from moisture.

Reduce indoor humidity

(1) Activated Carbon Moisture-proof and Dehumidification

Activated carbon has a wide range of uses such as dehumidification, air purification, and odor elimination. The dehumidification box sold in supermarkets is mainly composed of calcium fluoride and activated carbon.

This product is effective for dehumidifying small spaces such as control cabinets for cutting machines and electrical cabinets. Using activated carbon during humid weather can reduce environmental humidity in closed spaces, thereby reducing the risk of equipment failure due to humidity. When purchasing activated carbon, make sure to choose products that meet relevant standards and follow the operating instructions strictly to ensure their effectiveness and avoid potential safety hazards.

(2) Open Windows for Ventilation During Fine Weather

It is advisable to avoid opening windows facing south, especially on rainy or cloudy days. Instead, open windows facing other directions to reduce indoor humidity on fine days.

(3) Quicklime Dehumidification

Quicklime has the ability to absorb approximately 0.3 kg of water in the air for every 1 kg of its weight and is highly effective in absorbing moisture. If the room is damp and the floor is moist, put quicklime in cloth bags and position it in the corners of the workshop to quickly remove moisture and dry the area. However, care should be taken while handling quicklime due to its caustic nature.

(4) Air conditioning Dehumidification

Air conditioning dehumidification can be particularly effective in humid weather. To reduce indoor humidity, turn on the air conditioner and select the dehumidification function. The air conditioner will act like a dryer and effectively reduce the indoor humidity level. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the air conditioner are also important to ensure it functions properly.

(5) Regular Cleaning of Dust in the Electrical Cabinet

Regularly cleaning the dust in the electric cabinet can effectively reduce the cabinet's environmental humidity. If water vapor appears outside the electric cabinet, wipe the surface of the cabinet to remove any moisture. Turn on the air conditioner and set it to dehumidify for half an hour before turning on the laser cutter’s power supply to ensure the stable operation.

If water vapor appears outside the electric cabinet, do not start the machine immediately

If there is water vapor on the surface of the electric cabinet, first wipe it dry before turning on the air conditioner with dehumidifying function for half an hour. Once completed, turn on the equipment’s power supply and observe its operation for stability.

Regular Inspection

Regular inspection and maintenance of fiber cutting machine such as air compressors, filter elements, and cold dryers are also crucial to avoid potential contamination or damage to the cutting head lens and gas pipeline caused by a malfunctioning drainage function.

During wet weather conditions, it is essential to pay extra attention to anti-static and lightning protection. Staff members should avoid wearing slippers and must always verify the grounding of the ground wire.

In conclusion

Protecting laser fiber cutting machines from moisture is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and longevity. By reducing indoor humidity, regularly cleaning and inspecting equipment, and seeking guidance from equipment manufacturers or professional technicians when needed, you can help protect your equipment from moisture-related issues. Remember, taking appropriate action to protect your metal fiber laser cutting machine from moisture will not only improve the machine’s performance but also prevent unnecessary expenses and equipment downtime.
